Did I even mention how I hate Clique's
Sep. 9th, 2010 10:00 amAnd now a rant...
Darn it, I'm not wrong. Really, this time I'm not! There are times where I am, but just because your tiny circle of friends doesn't DO something doesn't mean that the world in large hasn't been? At least one of you have been admiting to it! You just want to claim it's from somewhere it's not!
I mean, I can't explain it any better. Party Roles do not originate, nor were they inspired, by MMO's. It's been around since day one, and just because systems are borked, or you play borked doesn't mean the concept didn't exist!
Yes, the fighter is suppose to block the bad guys. Yes, Star Wars expects the party to have a Jedi. Yes, Shadowrun expects you to have a decker. Heck, it's the whole reason they added the rigger into the game later. Yes, Deadlands expects you to have a Huckster. Was I the only person reading the end game for that game? (Yes, indeed, Deadlands had a conclusion written into the basic game).
Even Torg has things they expect from the party. They expect one person to be able to use miracles. They expect another person to cast spells. They expect one person to be the gun guy. They expect one person to be the lore nut. They expect one person to be the ninja. I know this, because the archetypes are in EVERY WORLD BOOK. Well, except Living Lands, but really, the magic axiom is so low there....
I mean, seriously, not only am I *not* making this shit up, the game designers write scenarios based on these assumptions. Stop telling me that you can play unbalanced parties. No duh you can play unbalanced parties. You can do that in every game. That doesn't mean that is what is expected, you morons.
I mean, seriously, why do you think these things show up over and over again? Do you purposefully just put on blinders? I mean, I know you're population is low because you scare off people, but DAMN, you are stupid in your logic.
