... So Friday, I decided wouldn't it be awesome if I went out and actually did something? So I went out to play a Magic Draft, because it's not something I had done in a while, and I could look at all sorts of different art cards and go oo and ah...

... and, well, no one was there. Apparently it was the weekend of the Pre-release! So everyone was waiting for Saturday to show up and do their thing... So I decided that what the heck... I took my little bro with me and we went to the Pre-Release!

It was a bit challenging in a lot of ways. I probably made a bad mistake in my deck building and should have gone one color. My little bro had some issues too... like half of his packs didn't have any rare cards in them. :( We're going to talk to customer service and see if we can't have that fixed, but he probably could have used some cards given how things went.

There were a lot of people in the tiny store (25 players in total, in a space a little larger then my living/kitchen area.) I drew a lot of double and triple cost cards in my packs, so I was doing the best I could, but I wasn't having a horribly good luck, and was praying I wasn't going to run into speed decks. Overall, I did well, and went 3-2 and took 10th place, which is better then I expected. I got me a pack of cards, so it was cool.

My little bro had some really bad luck, and maybe wasn't being aggressive enough. He took last place, going 4-1. However, he got a deck box out of it and all is good in the world. He was ready to go do it again, so the experience didn't sour him too much.

Overall, I think the gimmick they had for the prerelease was cool, but my deckbuilding skills are not as sharp as they could be. I should have been paying attention to the casting costs of my cards and should have realized I should have been playing only One color, or one color and blue. If I had pulled just two more blue cards or had more control in blue, I would have gone with it. As it turns out, I probably should have gone white and splashed in the blue. Ah well.

It really sucks that a lot of the Phyrexian players ended up with no rares. It isn't really fair to show up to a game and have some of your awesome ripped out of you before you get a chance to play.

Oh, and for all the boys in the audience, a woman won 1st place at the tournament. Just thought someone might like to hear that.
