So, this Friday, I decided I needed a new perspective, so I picked up a copy of Watercolor Artist from the local B&N. In it was a exercise (they have a contest, which I don't expect to win, but might enter anyway) about texture.

The gist is that they want you to make a light wash, and then drop sedimentary paint into that, and let the paper make all kinds of things happen. While I did have to look up what Sedimentary meant (It's a category of paints that tends to granulate when exposed in water, like your WN Cobalt Blue), I figured I'd at least play with the idea.

The first one had a really nice texture, but I completely ruined it by not having a plan. While part of it is probably save worthy, I tossed it into the "Learning" Paper, and turned it over and tried again. By that point, though, I had a plan. I knew what I wanted to do... I wanted to do a zebra head! ... okay, so I've done it before, but this will be fun! So I did it...

... funny thing about Yellow is that you don't really want to use it as the color for a Monochrome kind of exercise. THat and the eyes were off. Ah well. Try again!

This time, I think I got it right. It at least LOOKS like I wanted it to, and it's probably not as bold as it could be, and it probably needs a little cropping, as it's got an ugly bunch of negative space on the right hand side, but it's much better then the other two.

It probably doesn't use the technique to the full advantage (As the other person had these marvelous old car things, but I'm not really interested in making old looking things right now), but I feel that it does add to the painting, and while I did it in browns, I'm happy with the result on this one. Although I am tempted on doing just one more and seeing if I can do even more.

In anycase, just a report to let you know I am alive and still producing, even after the black hole that is the LOTRO thing...
