I don't understand DA...

sarah_tvOkay... so I am punishing myself by looking at the popular by X days on DA, right? To see what is popular so I have an idea on what maybe the "general audiance" is interested in. And on the 24 hour scale, it makes sense. Jolly Jack, okay... and some generic naked fox/tiger pics, okay. Boring, but understandable.
Then I flip to Popular in the Last Month... and... I'm like "Eh?". The quality of images goes DOWN. At the month level, it's a popularity contest between people who are in High School, maybe. I mean, we are talking stick figures... and if you dive into traditional media, it gets worse...
... I truly, TRULY do not understand what this means... OR what to learn from it.
