Oct. 11th, 2010 11:00 amAcrylic Paint and Transparency
Okay... So my father handed me this project... which I will not rant about directly here... but it has to do with Acrylics...
... as many of you know, I don't have a lot of experience playing with acrylics. Outside of maybe a little painting on some miniatures, I've not really done a lot with them. Most of my experience with them is like HOURS of time that I spent watching people paint on PBS. So I understand on a Armchair level about acrylics... but on a Hands On... not so much.. and then Fabric Painting. o.O
... So, I am learning what I can and can't do as quickly as I can.. because I have till Friday to finish this project, and I have only until Wednesday if I want to possibly set this. It's a really extensive project, and I still have to run out and get paint and practice material with! ARG!
In anycase, I think I have as much information from indirectly as possible as I possibly can...
My first thought was "Hey, it's still a water based media... I bet I can just do washes, and that'll let me do this just like the way I work with WC's. The answer is... Umm...
I put together a little ink doodle of a Suhagin (sp. :P) from the MM4E, and then went with washes over it... The answer is YES! You can do a wash. It'll color and coat and it'll be fine... ish... if you don't mind losing your underpainting... I mean, it'll still kinda show, but it'll just not be very crisp. Unlike with watercolors. So that approach doesn't work.
So, I need a different plan, and I need them quickly, and that doesn't even start with the thing of "OMG, I never have done painting on Cloth" yet... although given that CANVAS is the standard painting medium, I don't think I have that much to worry about. I just have to worry about flexability and washing... which is a different issue.
*sigh* Okay. Art Store Trip.
