So, we have Five Armies.

We have the Thirteen. Under the influnce of a corrupted Arkenstone, Thorin stubbornly refuses to listen to rhyme or reason, and holds up in the Dwarven Fortress with the Thirteen, refusing to come out, and deal with people in a civilized manner, becoming greedy and corrupt. He HAS the treasure, and doesn't feel like sharing, even though some of his brothers think it might be a sensible idea.

We have Bard, future King of the Dales, and he by right of slaying the dragon, is due reward for it, and has brought his men to lay siege to what he had imangined to have been an empty fort. He doesn't want to kill the Dwarves, but he does want what is his. The Elves... he doesn't mind as much, but would still rather not fight them.

Thranduil has brought an army also. They are less pratical for being there. They sensed the shift of power, and have come to reclaim the Elf Treasure that has been stolen from the Elves of the years. They want compensation, even though they didn't actually do anything. However, this is reasonable, and Thranduil does not intend on cheating anyone, just to retrieve what is theirs.

After a few days pass, as the two armies lay outside and wait, Dain and his army arrive. Dain is there to help his cousin, who he had heard came back to claim the mountain. While the Dwarf didn't want to share any of the treasure, either, he couldn't get inside, for his cousin was so suspicious and jealous that he wouldn't let anyone in.

Then you have the Goblin Army and their Worgs. Yep. There's blood in the air, and treasure to be had. Why wouldn't they come.

... and that, to the best of my knowledge, is the reasonings for everyone being there at that battle.

How on earth did those 13 ever think they would have made it as far as they did if it were not for Mr. Baggins I'll never know.
