The style of that MLP cartoon is rather brusque and aggressive. I don't think it's a good approach to a MLP story-line. I also don't like how far off model they've taken the visual representation of the MLP's. The voices are warm and OK. The sped up, up-tempo theme song is not my cup of tea either. I just hope that NightMare is freed. It seems to me she got a really bad deal, getting locked up in the moon "for all eternity" or for 1000 years (whichever comes first).
Well, yes, but I don't find that particularly a bad thing. I mean, between Tinkerbell and other shows, we have plenty of "Sweet and Kindness" rolemodels. It's nice to have some more active and rambunctious types as well. Besides, the adventurous types have always suited the ponies better then other types.
I personally am entertained by the look at the moment... and while I think the toys are a little "eh..." and less appealing then the more traditional G4 or G2 series, at least they are embracing Unicorns and Pegasus's again. Still 10 times better then the Bratz Ponies. O.M.G. they were ugly.
If they go the traditional 80's route, they either will a) Win over Nightmare with compassion, or b) Nightmare control will be broken/spoiled, and she will retreat and will be a reoccurring villain. I do feel sorry for her, too. :(
Is compassion the right approach to make amends with someone who has been unappreciated and shunned? If you were locked in the hall closet at school by the "In Crowd" for having green hair and putting up petitions to have all the toilets replaced with compost pit versions, how would you react if everyone turned around and said to you, "There, there, you are a weird looking fruitcake and a total loser, but it's OK. Really. Here, have a gum-drop." I mean, compassion is for misfortunes that you can't or don't want to fix. If the ponies aren't willing or able to appreciate Nightmare's moonlit landscape, they might as well be compassionate ("aaah, por li'l thang"), lock her up and throw away the key. Maybe send her an apple crumble every Christmas just to show their continued compassion.
I think the best approach is to introduce a 'night appreciation theme', perhaps with glo-ponies, campfire cook-outs and astronomy and tie that in with a negotiated release of Nightmare... or something along those lines. A reconciliation between night and day... And a formal apology from the Daymare.
I love the idea, but I'm not holding out long on having such a radical resolution happen, though. A Formal Apology, yes, I can see that happening. Glow Ponies and an accepting night life? Probably too outside of formula.
Well, Ms. Twilight Sparkle probably is a night owl anyway, but I don't think she'd be happy enough with just an admirer on her own...
